For public schools, this prohibition applies unless written parental consent is obtained on a per-material basis and an alternative assignment is provided for students without consent; for public libraries, the prohibition is direct. The bill also introduces a new criminal penalty, classifying violations by employees or independent contractors acting with criminal negligence as a class 5 felony, and mandates that both schools and libraries require new hires to sign an acknowledgment form confirming they have read these provisions. Additionally, the bill makes technical changes to chapter headings related to computer and library access by minors.
