Specifically, it raises the threshold for what is considered a "small purchase" for these items from $100,000 to $250,000. This means that purchases of local food products up to $250,000 will be exempt from the requirement to use the state's electronic procurement system and will instead only need at least three written quotes, a change intended to help the DOE meet its goal of sourcing at least 30% of school food locally by 2030. This provision is temporary and will expire on June 30, 2028.
