This bill makes an emergency appropriation of $1,500,000 from the state's general revenues to the University of Hawaii for fiscal year 2025-2026 to expand and sustain the Maui Wildfire Exposure Study and Maui Health Registry, which were established in response to the devastating August 2023 Maui wildfires. These initiatives aim to address the ongoing health impacts, including toxic exposures and trauma, faced by survivors, with a particular focus on high-risk groups like children, first responders, kupuna (elderly individuals), and those with medical vulnerabilities, by providing expanded services and long-term follow-up for up to five thousand individuals.
