Bill Summary

This bill modifies testing requirements applicable to pupils who are participating in the education savings account program. Current law requires each pupil participating in the education savings account program to take all applicable state and federally required student assessments. The bill modifies this provision to provide that each such pupil is required to take either all applicable state and federally required student assessments or standardized, nationally norm-referenced student assessments in mathematics and English language arts in the same grades as comparable tests are administered under federal law.

AI Summary

This bill modifies the testing requirements for students participating in the education savings account program, which provides public funds to help families pay for private school tuition and other educational expenses. Currently, these students must take all state and federally mandated student assessments. The bill changes this to allow these students to instead take standardized, nationally norm-referenced tests in math and English language arts, specifically in the same grades where similar tests are required under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act. The results of whichever assessment option is chosen will be shared with parents and reported to the state's department of education.
