AI Summary

This bill mandates that all public school districts in Illinois that include elementary grades must provide age-appropriate active-transportation safety training for students in kindergarten through 8th grade, defining "active transportation" as non-motorized travel like biking and walking. For younger students (kindergarten through 3rd grade), the training must cover basic pedestrian safety, including how to cross roads. For older students (4th through 8th grade), the training expands to include detailed pedestrian safety, bicycle safety covering traffic laws and proper gear, and safety rules for electric-assisted bicycles, specifically noting that individuals under 16 cannot operate them. The bill also allows private schools with elementary grades to offer this training voluntarily, permits training to be delivered online, and requires reasonable accommodations for English language learners and students with disabilities. Furthermore, the Secretary of Transportation is tasked with maintaining a collection of training materials to support these requirements, which are in addition to any existing transportation safety laws.
