This bill amends the Public Safety Employee Benefits Act, which provides health insurance benefits to public safety employees who are catastrophically injured or killed in the line of duty. Specifically, it changes the provision regarding health insurance for the surviving spouse of an injured employee who later dies. Previously, the employer was required to pay the spouse's health insurance premium only until the spouse remarried. This bill removes that remarriage limitation, meaning the employer will now continue to pay the entire health insurance premium for the surviving spouse indefinitely, as well as for dependent children under specified conditions, ensuring continued coverage for families of fallen first responders.
