This resolution commends the Virginia Society for Clinical Social Workers (VSCSW) for its 50 years of service, recognizing its significant contributions to the field of clinical social work in Virginia. Since its founding in 1976, the VSCSW has been instrumental in advocating for and achieving key legislative victories, including the passage of a social work licensure bill, a vendorship law that mandates insurance reimbursement for clinical social workers, and legislation establishing parity for mental health services. The organization has also worked to protect the title of "social worker" through title protection legislation and has been a leader in advocating for the inclusion of licensed clinical social workers as recognized treatment providers, even empowering them to protect children's psychotherapy records when necessary. Most recently, the VSCSW partnered to pass the Social Work Licensure Compact, a groundbreaking initiative allowing for telehealth services across multiple states and addressing mental health treatment shortages. Furthermore, the VSCSW actively participates in coalitions to ensure insurance coverage parity for mental health conditions and consistently upholds values of equity, inclusion, and social justice, advocating for the dignity and rights of all individuals and communities.
