This bill prohibits cities and counties in Kansas from enacting or enforcing any local laws that would force landlords to rent to tenants who use financial assistance, such as through the Housing Choice Voucher program (a federal program that helps low-income families afford housing), or any other housing aid. It also prevents these local governments from restricting a landlord's ability to consider a prospective tenant's income source, credit history, eviction records, or property damage history when deciding whether to rent to them, as long as the landlord applies these criteria consistently. Any existing local ordinances that violate these provisions and were passed before July 1, 2026, will be invalidated.
