This bill appropriates $250,000 from the state's general fund to the University of New Mexico's Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies for fiscal year 2027 to support the Curanderismo Traditional Medicine Institute. The funds are designated for year-round scholarships, with priority given to New Mexico residents from rural, tribal, indigenous, or underserved communities, or those intending to provide culturally rooted healing services within the state. Additionally, the appropriation will fund year-round statewide outreach and engagement efforts, including developing new courses, informational sessions, workshops, and culturally appropriate materials, as well as collaborating with tribal governments, community organizations, and various populations to promote traditional healing education and pathways. Any unspent funds at the end of the fiscal year will be returned to the general fund.
