AI Summary

This bill requires local school boards and other public school governing bodies in Georgia to implement weapon detection systems in certain school buildings to help prevent individuals from unlawfully possessing or carrying weapons, with the definition of "weapon" referring to existing state law. These security measures, which can use various detection methods, must be used at all main entry points to permanent school buildings where students are present, with exceptions for locked doors that are alarmed and not intended for regular student use or only for emergencies. School districts are authorized to use available grants and other funding to comply with these requirements, and the law will take effect on January 1, 2028.
