This joint resolution establishes the compensation for judges in Maryland based on the recommendations of the Judicial Compensation Commission, a seven-member body appointed by the Governor with nominations from legislative leaders and the Maryland State Bar Association. The Commission is tasked with reviewing judicial salaries and pensions and making recommendations. The General Assembly can reduce these recommended salaries but cannot increase them, and any reduction cannot affect a judge's current salary. If the General Assembly does not act on the resolution within 50 days of its introduction, the recommended salaries will take effect for fiscal years 2027 through 2030.
