This bill amends South Dakota law to change how the salaries of state legislators are calculated. Instead of being set at one-fifth of the South Dakota median household income as reported by the United States Census Current Population Survey, legislators' salaries will now be equal to twenty-two percent of the South Dakota median household income as reported by the American Community Survey, conducted by the United States Census Bureau. This figure will be adjusted annually by the State Board of Finance and will take effect on January 1st of each year before a regular legislative session. The bill also clarifies that legislators will continue to receive reimbursement for mileage to and from home, a daily allowance for living expenses, and a mileage allowance for travel within the state, with some minor wording changes to these provisions.
