This resolution commends the Smithfield branch of the Blackwater Regional Library on its 100th anniversary, recognizing its long history that began in 1924 with funding from the Smithfield Town Council and the establishment of its first iteration in 1925. The library, formerly known as the Benjamin P. Chapman Memorial Library after a donation from Cora Leigh Chapman, became part of the Blackwater Regional Library system in 1974 and moved to its current location in the former Smithfield High School in 1989. The resolution acknowledges the library's invaluable role as a local institution that has significantly contributed to the Smithfield community and the Commonwealth of Virginia, and directs the Clerk of the House of Delegates to present a copy of this commendation to the library.
