This bill mandates that the New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJT), which provides bus, rail, and light rail services, must offer discounted fares to several groups of individuals. These groups include elementary and secondary school students, full-time college and university students, and full-time participants in workforce training programs, all of whom use NJT services for their daily commute to and from school or training. Additionally, individuals currently receiving benefits from the Work First New Jersey program, a temporary public assistance program for families, will be eligible for these discounts. The bill also extends discounts to newly employed individuals who meet specific criteria, such as commuting to work via NJT, earning at least the state minimum wage, working at least 20 hours per week, having been unemployed for at least 30 days prior to their new job, not currently receiving Work First New Jersey benefits, and being a New Jersey resident.
