Bill Summary

This bill prohibits the South Jersey Transportation Authority from allowing free passage through toll gates or over the Atlantic City Expressway of a vehicle operated by any past or present employee, officer, or appointed member unless the vehicle is being operated to carry out an official duty for the authority or to commute to and from the employee's or officer's place of employment with the authority. Currently, employees of the authority are given toll-free passage on the Expressway for purposes relating to their employment with the authority as well as for personal trips.

AI Summary

This bill amends existing law to restrict toll-free passage on South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) toll roads, including the Atlantic City Expressway, for its employees, officers, and appointed members. Previously, these individuals could travel toll-free for both official duties and personal trips. Under this bill, free passage will only be permitted when the vehicle is being used to carry out an official duty for the SJTA or for commuting to and from their place of employment. For employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement, these new restrictions will apply upon the renewal or renegotiation of those agreements.
