This bill allows for the creation of a special Rhode Island license plate designed to raise awareness for colon cancer, with the design to be developed by the Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island, a non-profit organization. The bill specifies that these special plates will be used in place of regular registration plates, and a $40 surcharge will be added to the standard registration fee, with half of that amount going to the state's general fund and the other half to the Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island to support its mission. For subsequent renewals, a $10 surcharge will be entirely allocated to the Partnership. The Partnership is required to use these funds for Rhode Island-based charitable organizations focused on colon cancer awareness and must submit an annual accounting report before receiving the funds, and there will be no refunds for early cancellation of these plates. This act will become effective immediately upon its passage.
