Bill Summary

This bill removes the requirement that all boards of education of the various school districts in the State be members of the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA). Under the bill, boards of education may opt out of NJSBA membership at any time, are not required to pay dues to NJSBA, and are not required to select a member as a delegate to NJSBA. Currently, all boards of education are required to be dues-paying members of NJSBA and they are required to annually select one member of the board to serve as a delegate to NJSBA. This bill will make NJSBA membership optional.

AI Summary

This bill makes membership in the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA), a statewide organization for local school boards, optional for all boards of education in New Jersey. Previously, all school boards were required to be members and pay dues, as well as select a delegate to represent them at NJSBA meetings. Under this new legislation, individual boards of education can choose whether or not to join the NJSBA, and if they choose to be members, they will still have to pay dues and select a delegate, but they can also opt out of these requirements at any time.
