Bill Summary

The bill requires the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (commission) to enter into a contract with AAA to allow for the provision of certain motor vehicle services to AAA customers at certain AAA facilities throughout the State. The contract would be required, at a minimum and to the extent practicable, to allow for the following motor vehicle services to be provided at certain AAA facilities: (1) motor vehicle registration renewals, replacements, and duplicates; (2) driver's license renewals, duplicates, and upgrades to a REAL-ID license; (3) non-driver identification card renewals, duplicates, and upgrades to a REAL-ID identification card; (4) license plate surrenders; and (5) vision tests. The bill also requires, no later than one month after the contact agreement is signed by both the commission and AAA, the commission to publish on its Internet website information concerning the motor vehicle services to be offered at AAA facilities throughout the State.

AI Summary

This bill requires the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC), the state agency responsible for driver's licenses and vehicle registrations, to contract with AAA, a membership organization that provides roadside assistance and other automotive services, to offer specific motor vehicle services at certain AAA locations. These services would include renewing, replacing, or obtaining duplicate vehicle registrations, renewing, replacing, or upgrading driver's licenses and non-driver identification cards to REAL-ID compliant versions, surrendering license plates, and conducting vision tests. The bill also mandates that the MVC publish information about these services on its website within one month of the contract being finalized, making it easier for AAA members to access these essential motor vehicle functions.
