"Sex offender" is defined as a person who has been convicted, adjudicated delinquent or found not guilty by reason of insanity for committing a broad range of sexual offenses as defined in the sex offender registration law (Megan's Law). A crime of the third degree carries a penalty of three to five years imprisonment, a fine of up to $15,000, or both.

AI Summary

This bill aims to protect children by prohibiting individuals classified as "sex offenders" from holding jobs where at least 80% of their duties involve contact with children. A "sex offender" is defined as someone convicted of, adjudicated delinquent for, or found not guilty by reason of insanity for certain sexual offenses, as outlined in the state's sex offender registration law, often referred to as Megan's Law. Both offenses are classified as crimes of the third degree, carrying penalties of three to five years imprisonment, a fine of up to $15,000, or both. An exception is made for sex offenders under 18 participating in jobs that offer rehabilitative services to juvenile sex offenders.
