Bill Summary

This bill requires the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the South Jersey Transportation Authority (authorities) to make visible, on an electronic display in every lane of every toll plaza of the electronic toll collection system, commonly known as E-ZPass, on the State's three toll roads, the New Jersey Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway, and the Atlantic City Expressway, the toll amount paid by a customer with an E-ZPass account when passing through a toll plaza. This requirement does not apply to any toll plaza at which tolls are collected through passage under a high speed gantry. Under the bill, "electronic toll collection system" is defined as the electronic system employed or utilized by the authorities to register and collect the toll required to be paid for a vehicle entering a toll plaza owned or operated by, or upon the behalf of, the authorities.

AI Summary

This bill mandates that the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the South Jersey Transportation Authority must display the amount of tolls paid by E-ZPass customers on an electronic screen in every lane of their toll plazas, with the exception of plazas that use high-speed gantries for toll collection. E-ZPass is a common electronic toll collection system that allows drivers to pay tolls automatically. The bill defines "electronic toll collection system" as the electronic method used by these authorities to register and collect tolls for vehicles entering their toll plazas. This requirement aims to provide greater transparency to drivers using the E-ZPass system on the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and Atlantic City Expressway.
