This bill amends the composition of the Fish and Game Council, which is part of the Division of Fish and Wildlife, without altering its total size of 11 members. Currently, the council includes three farmer representatives, six sportsmen representatives, the chair of the Endangered and Nongame Species Advisory Committee, and an individual knowledgeable in land-use management and soil conservation. The proposed changes will replace three of the six sportsmen representative seats with three seats for individuals recommended by animal welfare organizations, resulting in a council with three farmer representatives, three sportsmen representatives, three animal welfare representatives, the Endangered and Nongame Species Advisory Committee chair, and the land-use/soil conservation expert. An "animal welfare organization" is defined as a non-profit entity exempt from federal taxes whose main purpose is the protection, care, humane treatment, or advocacy of animals.
