The purpose of this bill is to assist these authorized persons in their lawful attempt to successfully serve process on persons residing in these communities.

AI Summary

This bill requires personnel at gated communities and multi-unit complexes to allow authorized individuals to serve legal documents, such as summonses and complaints, to residents. These authorized individuals include sheriffs, constables, State investigators, Special Civil Part court officers, and court attendants, who are all officials involved in the legal process. The bill mandates that security guards or other personnel at these locations must permit these authorized individuals to enter and serve documents if they present photo identification and the legal document itself. Failure to comply with this requirement by the security personnel will result in a petty disorderly persons offense, which is a minor criminal offense punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $500. The purpose of this legislation is to ensure that these authorized officials can effectively carry out their duties in serving legal notices to individuals living in secured residential areas.
