This bill appropriates $615,000 to the Department of Human Services for the purpose of awarding a grant to the NJ 2-1-1 Partnership Operating Aid. In June 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) authorized the designation of 2-1-1 for human services information and referral programs on a nationwide basis. The FCC, in establishing the 2-1-1 designation, granted community groups the ability to establish the delivery of information and referral services using this universal access number on a state-by-state basis. In 2002, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) designated NJ 2-1-1 Partnership as the sole administrator of the 211 dialing code in New Jersey. Since then, NJ 2-1-1 Partnership has been providing the 2-1-1 service Statewide.
