This bill mandates that all health insurance contracts, plans, or policies in Rhode Island must provide the same payment, or reimbursement, to independent healthcare facilities as they do to hospital-affiliated facilities when the same healthcare service is performed, a concept referred to as "single site parity." This requirement applies to insurance policies delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed in the state, and is subject to federal law. The health insurance commissioner is tasked with creating necessary rules and regulations to ensure this provision is effectively administered and enforced. This change will take effect on January 1, 2027, and applies to various types of health insurance, including accident and sickness insurance, nonprofit hospital service corporations, nonprofit medical service corporations, and health maintenance organizations (HMOs).
