Bill Summary

This bill does all of the following: 1. Requires that the official ballot for city offices must provide sufficient space for write-in candidates. 2. Eliminates the requirement that independent candidates for state office appear on the partisan primary ballot. 3. Specifies that a current and valid temporary operator’s license or temporary identification card issued by the Department of Transportation may be used to establish proof of residence for voter registration. Current law enumerates a number of kinds of documents that may be used to establish proof of residence for a person registering to vote. Those documents include an operator’s license or identification card for voting, both issued by DOT. For further information, see the NOTES provided by the Law Revision Committee of the Joint Legislative Council.
