This bill amends Chapter 176O of the General Laws to ensure that licensed athletic trainers, when acting with a physician's referral and within their authorized scope of practice, are not denied reimbursement by a health insurance carrier for covered services if another healthcare provider would be reimbursed for similar services. This provision applies to health plans that already cover the type of service or medical condition treated by athletic trainers, and while deductibles, co-payments, limits, and utilization reviews may apply, they cannot unfairly discriminate against athletic trainer care and must be no more restrictive than those applied to other healthcare providers under the same policy. The bill clarifies that it does not prevent or impede the provision or coverage of athletic trainer services within their lawful practice.
