This bill proposes to amend an existing law to increase the annual fee for owners of electric motor vehicles. Specifically, it will raise the current annual fee to one hundred dollars, which must be paid at the time of annual vehicle registration. This fee applies to noncommercial motor vehicles that are solely powered by an electric motor drawing electricity from a rechargeable battery and are legally operable on interstate highways and eligible for registration in the state. The bill clarifies that this fee does not apply to electric motorcycles if their license fee is paid under a different section of the law. The definition of an "electric motor vehicle" also specifies that it must be manufactured primarily for public roads and meet federal safety standards. The revenue generated from these increased fees will be deposited into the state highway fund.
