This bill amends the Climate Displacement Task Force Act by changing the deadlines for two reports that the Climate Displacement Task Force is required to submit to the General Assembly, which is the state legislature. The Task Force is responsible for studying and making recommendations about people who may be forced to relocate due to climate change impacts within Illinois and surrounding areas. The first report, which analyzes scientific research and global projections of climate displacement and includes the Task Force's findings and recommendations, will now be due by December 31, 2026, instead of June 30, 2026. The second report, which builds on the first and provides a plan for infrastructure, systems development (meaning creating adaptable systems across government, infrastructure, and social services), and collaboration among state agencies to prepare for climate displacement challenges through 2050, will now be due by December 31, 2027, instead of June 30, 2027. The bill also states that it takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
