This bill amends the Climate Displacement Task Force Act by changing the submission deadlines for two important reports. The Climate Displacement Task Force, established to study and recommend solutions for people displaced by climate change within Illinois, is required to submit its first report, which analyzes scientific research and global projections of climate displacement and offers initial findings and recommendations, by December 31, 2026, instead of June 30, 2026. The second report, which will build upon the first to assess infrastructure needs, systems development (meaning the creation of resilient and adaptable systems across government, infrastructure, and social services), and inter-agency collaboration plans to prepare the state for climate displacement challenges through 2050, will now be due by December 31, 2027, also a shift from the original June 30, 2027 deadline. The bill also states that it takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
