This bill amends a Kentucky law concerning suspected unemployment insurance fraud by changing who the Education and Labor Cabinet must report these cases to. Previously, the cabinet was required to refer suspected fraud to the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet and potentially the United States Department of Justice. This bill removes those requirements and instead mandates that the cabinet refer suspected fraud cases to the appropriate county or Commonwealth's attorney and, importantly, to the United States Department of Labor. The bill specifies that these referrals must include the names of individuals and employers involved, any contact information the cabinet has for those suspected of fraud, and any relevant information reported to the cabinet, and that such referrals must be made within thirty days of determining that suspected fraud has occurred.
