AI Summary

This bill amends the Medical Practice Act of 1987 to regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in prescribing medication, defining "artificial intelligence" as it is defined in the Illinois Human Rights Act. It prohibits any licensed medical professional from allowing AI to prescribe medication if they do not maintain complete control and responsibility for that prescription. Violators will face civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation, determined by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) after a hearing, with the penalty amount reflecting the severity of harm and circumstances. The IDFPR is granted authority to investigate any suspected violations of these provisions and to create rules regarding the appropriate use of AI in prescribing medication. The bill also clarifies that the IDFPR has the power to formulate rules for the administration of the Act, now specifically including rules for AI prescribing.
