AI Summary
This bill allows merchants in Georgia to round the total price of goods and services when customers pay with cash, which is defined as "legal tender" meaning U.S. coins and currency. Specifically, if the total price ends in one, two, six, or seven cents, it will be rounded down to the nearest five cents, and if it ends in three, four, eight, or nine cents, it will be rounded up to the nearest five cents. This rounding rule does not apply to transactions totaling one or two cents (which will be rounded up to five cents) or to payments made by any method other than cash, such as credit cards or electronic transfers, unless cash is given back to the customer. The bill also clarifies that merchants must accept exact cash payment for the total amount due before any rounding occurs and states that no taxes will be applied to any gains or losses from this rounding process, and merchants will be protected from violations of state or local laws for complying with these rounding provisions.
