This bill proposes to amend the Maryland Constitution to increase the mandatory retirement age for all judges in the state from 70 to 73 years old, with the exception of District Court judges who will also have their retirement age raised to 73. The changes, indicated by the insertion of "SEVENTY-THREE" where "seventy" was previously written, will apply to judges of the Supreme Court of Maryland, intermediate courts of appeal, and circuit courts, as well as District Court judges. The bill also clarifies that this change in retirement age applies to retired judges who may be assigned to temporary judicial duties and will be submitted to voters in the November 2026 general election for approval.
