AI Summary
This bill designates a specific section of U.S. Highway 36, located within Phillips County between the eastern and western city limits of Phillipsburg, as the "Undersheriff Brandon Gaede Memorial Highway." The bill amends existing law by removing the words "deputy sheriff" and inserting "undersheriff" to accurately reflect Brandon Gaede's final rank. This designation will be made official by the secretary of transportation, who will install appropriate signage along the highway. The bill also includes standard language about when it will take effect. The context for this designation is the tragic death of Undersheriff Brandon Gaede, who was a dedicated law enforcement officer in Phillips County, a husband, and a father, who lost his life in the line of duty on June 27, 2025, while responding to a dangerous situation involving illegal explosives.
