This concurrent resolution establishes the Cemeteries Across Kentucky Task Force, a group tasked with addressing the issue of abandoned cemeteries in the Commonwealth. The task force will survey the number of abandoned cemeteries, review existing laws and policies, examine how other states handle this problem, and recommend state actions to combat it. It will seek input from relevant organizations and stakeholders, including those involved in cemetery preservation and veterans' affairs, as many abandoned cemeteries may contain the graves of veterans. The task force will consist of thirteen members, including legislators, representatives from county cemetery boards, the Kentucky Department of Veterans' Affairs, and specific citizen and cemetery owner representatives, with final membership subject to approval by the Legislative Research Commission. The task force is directed to meet monthly during the 2026 legislative interim and submit its findings and recommendations by December 1, 2026, though the Legislative Research Commission has the authority to assign these issues to a different committee or set a different completion date.
