This bill, titled the Western South Dakota Water Supply Project Feasibility Study Act, requires the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study to determine if it is practical and possible to build a project that would bring water from the Missouri River to the Western Dakota Regional Water System, Inc., a nonprofit corporation that serves municipal, rural, and industrial needs. The Secretary, working with this non-Federal project entity and other relevant government bodies, will produce a report recommending whether the project should be built and what portion of the construction costs, at least 25%, the non-Federal entity should cover, based on their ability to pay. The bill also authorizes $10 million for the feasibility study itself, with the Federal government covering no more than 50% of those study costs, and this authority will end 10 years after the bill becomes law.
