This bill ensures that foster children who are awaiting residential placement, meaning they are in temporary care facilities, will continue their education through virtual learning. This virtual instruction will be provided by the county where the foster child was last enrolled in school, or if that's not feasible, by the county where they are currently residing. If neither of those counties can offer virtual learning, the closest available county with the capability will be used. The bill also mandates that the individuals or organizations responsible for the foster child's temporary care receive training on information technology (IT) to facilitate this virtual learning, and that the virtual instruction begins no later than three days after the child enters temporary care. Finally, once a foster child is placed with a foster family, all relevant educational information from their virtual learning and enrollment will be shared with the foster family and the new school district.
