This bill establishes a 15-member Domestic Violence Task Force within the office of the Attorney General, with members appointed by various state officials and organizations, including survivors of domestic violence, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and law enforcement representatives. The task force is mandated to conduct a comprehensive review of domestic violence laws and their enforcement across the state, identify any shortcomings, and develop frameworks for specialized protective networks for victims, treatment options for both victims and offenders, and specialty court options for offenders. Additionally, it will study the availability of shelters for those fleeing domestic violence and explore the feasibility of requiring cities or counties to designate short-term shelters. Based on its findings, the task force will make policy recommendations to the legislature, reporting its findings and recommendations annually to the House Corrections and Juvenile Justice Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee, starting January 1, 2028. Members will be appointed by January 1, 2027, and will elect a chairperson, with a quorum of eight members required for official actions, and members will be reimbursed for expenses.
