This bill establishes a new section in the mental hygiene law to create a 24-hour, toll-free hotline and website specifically for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning plus (LGBTQ+) individuals who are experiencing emotional distress, suicidal thoughts, or other crisis-related challenges. This service will offer immediate support, referrals to resources like mental health clinics, gender-affirming care providers, shelters, and other relevant services, and will ensure strict confidentiality and accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities and non-English speakers, by offering multilingual and culturally competent support through various communication methods like text and web chat. The department will also coordinate with various organizations to maintain an accurate referral network and will publish an annual report on the hotline's usage and effectiveness.
