AI Summary

This bill amends the Illinois Pesticide Act to ban the use, distribution, sale, and offering for sale of paraquat, a type of herbicide, starting January 1, 2027, with limited exceptions for research purposes under strict protocols established by the Department of Agriculture. "Paraquat" refers to any herbicide product containing paraquat dichloride or any other chemical form of paraquat, and "use" is broadly defined to include application, distribution, sale, or handling. Before the ban takes effect, all individuals and businesses involved with paraquat must report specific information to the Department of Agriculture, including the quantity used, sold, or distributed, the geographic areas of use, and the types of crops or applications it's used for. The Department of Agriculture is also tasked with creating any necessary rules to implement and enforce these provisions, including establishing fines and penalties for violations, particularly for failing to submit the required reports.
