This bill appropriates $3.3 million from the state's general fund to New Mexico State University's board of regents for fiscal years 2026 through 2028. This funding will be used by the New Mexico Department of Agriculture to support the state's winemaking industry by developing projects, programs, promotions, and events that highlight its history, current economic importance, and future potential. The funds will also be used to collaborate with the Department of Transportation on winery signage and marking historical sites related to winemaking, and with the Tourism Department's marketing division on national advertising for the 400th anniversary of winemaking in America. Additionally, the appropriation will continue to fund an enologist, a wine scientist, to support student education and future job opportunities in the New Mexico winemaking sector. Any unspent funds at the end of fiscal year 2028 will be returned to the general fund.
