AI Summary
This bill, titled the "Increasing Access to Contraceptives Act," aims to expand access to contraception in Georgia by allowing pharmacists, under specific conditions and following a joint protocol agreement between the Georgia Composite Medical Board and the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy, to dispense self-administered hormonal contraceptives and administer injectable hormonal contraceptives without a patient-specific prescription, provided the patient is 18 or older or younger with prior prescription history, and after completing a risk assessment and receiving counseling. The bill also mandates that health insurance policies provide coverage for at least a three-month supply of contraceptives upon the first fill and a twelve-month supply thereafter, and similarly requires the Medicaid program to provide these minimum supply amounts for eligible women, with protections against civil liability, criminal culpability, and professional discipline for healthcare providers acting in good faith under these new provisions, all of which are set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
