AI Summary

This bill mandates that group and individual accident and sickness insurance plans, as well as the state's employee insurance and benefits plans and Medicaid program, must cover screening tests for peripheral artery disease (PAD) for individuals deemed "at-risk" at least once every 12 months, with these provisions taking effect on January 1, 2027, contingent upon legislative appropriations for the state employee and Medicaid plans. PAD is a condition where arteries in the legs narrow or become blocked, significantly increasing the risk of heart attack, stroke, amputation, and death, and the bill defines "at-risk individuals" based on age and specific risk factors for atherosclerosis, which is the underlying cause of PAD and other vascular diseases. The covered screening tests include noninvasive studies like ankle-brachial index testing and ankle plethysmographic pulse volume recordings, and any benefits provided will be subject to the same deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments as other covered benefits within the respective plans, with an exception for self-funded employer health insurance plans governed by federal law.
