AI Summary
This bill requires that any offender seeking to enter a Pretrial Intervention and Diversion Program for a domestic violence offense must agree that any future domestic violence conviction will be eligible for inclusion in a new registry of "recidivist domestic violence offenders." A recidivist domestic violence offender is defined as someone convicted of an offense against a victim with at least one prior conviction for an offense against a victim, where "victim" refers to someone experiencing family or dating violence. This new registry, to be maintained by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and published online without sensitive personal identification, will include the offender's name, date of birth, conviction details, and photograph. Clerks of court will be responsible for forwarding conviction information to the GBI, and offenders required to register will face a $150 fee, with $100 remitted to the state's general fund. The bill also specifies how long an offender's information will remain on the registry, ranging from two to ten years depending on the number of prior convictions, and clarifies that these provisions apply only to offenses committed on or after January 1, 2027.
