This bill, by amending Section 13351 of the Vehicle Code, mandates the immediate revocation of a person's driving privilege by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) if they are convicted of three or more offenses related to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or drugs, or related vehicular manslaughter charges, including specific Penal Code sections like 191.5 and 192.5, and Vehicle Code sections 23152 and 23153 when punished under certain enhanced penalties. Unlike current law which allows for reinstatement after three years with proof of financial responsibility, this bill significantly extends the revocation period for these specific DUI-related offenses to eight years, after which the individual must also provide proof of financial responsibility, as defined by Section 16430, before their driving privileges can be reinstated.
