AI Summary
This bill authorizes County Commissions to increase the compensation of elected county officials, including county commissioners, sheriffs, county and circuit clerks, assessors, and prosecuting attorneys, by allowing them to adjust salaries based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures inflation. Specifically, starting in 2027 and every two years thereafter, county commissions will review the CPI and determine if the county's budget has increased enough to cover a salary increase of at least two percent, or a percentage up to the CPI increase over the previous two years, for these officials. This adjustment is intended to ensure that salaries keep pace with economic changes and to allow local governments to make fiscal decisions regarding these increases, provided that the county is not more than 90 days delinquent in paying regional jail costs.
