This bill establishes a new special fund within the State treasury called the Public, Educational, and Governmental Programming Fund, which can receive money from any legal source and will retain any interest earned. The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will manage this fund, using its money, after it's approved by the legislature, to cover its own operational and administrative costs and to provide grants to entities that produce or operate public, educational, and governmental programming. The purpose of these grants is to help subsidize the costs associated with creating and acquiring such programming, including expenses for daily operations, major improvements (capital costs), and necessary equipment. The Department is also required to create rules by January 1, 2027, to outline how these grant funds will be distributed and who will be eligible to receive them.
