This bill modifies the rules governing public charter schools in Tennessee, specifically concerning their authorization and the length of their charter agreements. It prevents a public charter school whose charter was renewed by the Tennessee Public Charter School Commission on appeal from then mutually agreeing with the local school district (referred to as the Local Education Agency or LEA) for that local district to become its authorizer. Additionally, when the Commission renews a charter agreement, this bill allows the Commission to set the term of that agreement between five and ten years, rather than automatically assigning a ten-year term, providing more flexibility in renewal periods.
