This bill, effective July 1, 2026, allows local governments in Tennessee to satisfy public notice requirements by publishing notices online instead of solely in newspapers, starting July 1, 2027. To do this, a local government must pass an ordinance or resolution specifying when electronic publication will begin, how the public can access these notices, and which types of notices will be published electronically, along with adopting a policy for posting these notices. These online notices must be free to the public, easily accessible, and the policy must ensure the system's security, reliability, and proper archiving of notices. While third-party websites hosting these notices may charge a reasonable fee, any notice specifically required by law to be in a newspaper must still be published in a newspaper.
