This bill allows licensed nurse practitioners and licensed physician assistants, who are qualified as expert witnesses, to provide testimony in certain civil lawsuits regarding medical findings such as diagnoses, the necessity and reasonableness of medical care and charges, and the medical cause of injuries or conditions, as long as these cases are not health care liability actions (lawsuits concerning medical malpractice) or workers' compensation claims. Importantly, this bill clarifies that it does not permit these professionals to be part of workers' compensation panels or to testify in workers' compensation cases about an injured worker's disability or whether an injury is work-related.
