This bill modifies Tennessee law concerning the confidentiality of records related to intercollegiate athletics programs at public universities. It extends protections for records containing information about game or player integrity, which are kept confidential to maintain a university's competitive edge in sports. Additionally, the bill prohibits the public disclosure of certain commercial contracts entered into for these athletic programs until July 1, 2033, provided that disclosing information within these contracts could harm a business's economic advantage over competitors; however, the bill clarifies that the aggregate amount of state funds used, the existence of the contract, the parties involved, and the general topic of the contract will still be publicly accessible. Importantly, this section of the law does not grant individuals or entities a private right to sue or seek court orders to prevent disclosure, except for businesses claiming their economic advantage would be undermined.
